Potager Garden Design
My clients fell in love with the idea of a potager – but nothing too formal – they wanted a potager garden design that would open up views to the surrounding Suffolk countryside, complement the fabulous barns and former piggeries and provide a new seating area close to the house and one leading from a soon to be built orangerie. Drawing inspiration from a window in the red brick and flint barn, I designed a semi-circular layout for the potager area with a central pathway edged with lavender leading from the back door, through the potager design to a bench on a lawn overlooking the fields.
The seating area, enclosed with loose informal planting, is paved with sandstone, rustic red pavers and pebble insets to echo the materials of the former piggeries and barns. Obelisks adorned with sweet peas will provide vertical puncutations in each of the cutting beds of the potager whilst still maintaining an open view through to the fields beyond.
