Some kind words and testimonials from clients about Sue Townsend Garden Design
“Choosing Sue to design our garden was one of the best decisions ever. From the outset she fully listened to our brief and came up with some great creative suggestions. In less than a year our garden has been transformed into the most amazing, magical space. The colour and texture combinations, together with thoughtful succession planting provides interest throughout the year. The birds, butterflies, pond bugs, dragonflies, field mice and Mr Mole all have a great time too! We still can’t believe this really is our garden – it’s surpassed our wildest dreams! ”
“Sue has transformed my garden with her imagination and award winning design skills. Her borders here flower from April through to November and even have winter colour. I am particularly impressed with the choice of plants, incorporating some of my own, and positioning – wonderful in all lights and times of day, and totally in keeping with the landscape. The result is exactly what I wanted. Her ideas were all appropriate for the garden, wildlife friendly and easy to maintain as requested, and also appropriate for my budget. Sue has also been charming to deal with throughout as have her sub- contractors and has been totally reliable – both on time and on budget. A wonderful mixture of gardening expertise and flair, originality and quality delivery. I’m looking forward to going back to her for more !”
“Sue redesigned the garden of our holiday house on the Suffolk coast. It was a complicated affair; the old garden was mostly paved with banked beds and Was rather grim, uninviting and hence underused. Sue’s brief was to produce a design that would make us want to be outside whenever the weather allowed. And this is definitely the outcome. We now have an easy care, light, bright space with beautiful planting and an abundance of sitting and lounging areas. Suddenly we are in the South of France and the garden could not be better used!
In tandem with our Suffolk redesign we also moved homes in London and Sue again transformed our traditional suburban garden into a cool urban oasis. Gone is the classic lawn surrounded by beds and we now have an architectural design that has an abundance of planting with a postage stamp of a lawn to keep our puppy happy!
Overall I can not recommend Sue highly enough. Both our gardens included some very specific briefs and Sue has exceeded our expectations in each. She is a delight to work with and combines the technical skills of an architect with an extensive knowledge of plants to produce unique and beautiful spaces.”
“Sue made the process of designing our garden a very enjoyable experience and we are constantly delighted with the result. Our front garden receives many compliments from neighbours and passers by. There is something lovely to look at throughout the year.As well as being brilliant at her job, Sue is a lovely person to work with. She really listened to what we wanted and was very good at talking us through her design ideas and presented us with beautiful planting plans.”
“Sue is a pleasure to work with. Her ideas are creative, she came up with imaginative solutions to some tricky issues, her landscaping and planting contacts are equally excellent we have a beautiful but also manageable garden as a result. Thank you!”
“Sue has worked with us on two gardens. The bigger project of the two was to transform our seaside wrap around garden. We needed hard landscaping, extensive planting, a place to sit outside as well as an area for our children to play football. Sue was organised, efficient and listened to our needs well. She was a pleasure to work with and the result is a beautiful garden which we are enjoying throughout the seasons.”
“Sue provided inspired landscaping and planting ideas that we would never have thought off and a practical approach to getting the job done.”
“The garden is so bursting into life, everything growing growing! I could write an essay on how thrilled we are and how it is so admired, brilliant.
Where you have been so clever is managing to combine the plants that I love, with ones that will thrive in this sandy tricky soil, the cistus are so huge, even in the teeth of a gale – most days! Grasses are beautiful, alliums so tall, guara will be even more impressive this year. It is the perfect planting for such a wild uncultivated field, just following the contours of the house, along the amazing terrace. Simon, who laid it all, really knew his stuff and it is so lovely to have got to know him.”
“I just wanted to write and thank you for the lovely design and planting plan for my garden. I am thrilled to bits with it and can’t wait to get planting!”
“Dear Sue,
Our garden is absolutely wonderful. I’ve sung your praises to friends, family and complete strangers … David’s window verbena and grasses are totally fab and the little hazel tree plot is thriving. Well done you. You’ve brought so much pleasure.”
“Sue came and helped me take in hand my rather neglected coastal facing garden. She listened most carefully to what I wanted and was particularly helpful in the choice of plants, again managing to accommodate my preferences. The outcome last summer was a triumph a most beautiful planted display. I found her attentive and responsive and she introduced good people to do the hard landscaping. I would have no hesitation in recommending her.”
“We are really delighted with the garden Sue has designed for us. Sue very quickly understood what we were trying to achieve, but really added value by suggesting design options that we had not considered ourselves. Her design reflected and built on our particular planting likes and dislikes. Sue did more than we could have anticipated to create the garden we wanted, which enhances and blends with the rural setting of our house. She is very flexible and easy to work with. She provided support and advice throughout the landscaping and planting process and has stayed in touch with us whilst we enjoy seeing our new garden come to life.”
“Sue has designed and planted two gardens for me. One a courtyard garden and the other a little larger with flower beds a curvy lawns. She made each experience such fun and her sensitive approach to the designs and planting were tailored to ones lifestyle. I have been so delighted with both my gardens … They are a joy”
“Sue first worked on our garden when we moved into our new home with our young children. She created a space that was able to morph effortlessly between the demands of a growing family and our desire for a grown up space for entertainment. When we remodelled our home recently, I had no hesitation to engage Sue again. She is a delight to work with. She naturally relates to her clients, is highly creative and has a strong yet simple design ethos. She listens well and her designs reflect the clients ideas whilst at the same time providing gentle guidance to an improved outcome.
As before, she immediately understood what I was looking for and translated that into a stylish space that has received much admiration from friends (and the press!). Her idea to commission a stunning steel piece that acts as both sculpture and practical shield to all the common trivia a family creates was truly inspiring.
I would have no hesitation to work with Sue again and have recommended her to many friends.”
“Every day one of us in the family looks out of the windows and says I love this garden! One of the best decisions we have ever made was to contact Sue to ask for her ideas as to what could be done with the garden we had inherited when we moved house two years ago.
Sue is an absolute delight to know and work with. Calm, professional, humorous and a very good listener. She noted down our visions, memories, likes, dislikes, all coming to her at once from three different voices and took them beyond anything we could have envisaged possible and created a garden that is truly beyond our wildest dreams and yet very personal to us. We wanted a garden for wildlife – birds, bees, butterflies and other insects – where we could relax and entertain – and with a touch of France. In the Suffolk countryside. A garden we could manage and enjoy working in without feeling daunted. Thanks to Sue we now have it all and more.”
“Sue teased our holiday snaps, magazine cuttings and vague drawings into a semi-formal design which opened up the views, created a delightful seating area and encouraged colour, movement, lovely scent and attracted butterflies and bees. It has been a delight to us, friends and family.”
“It was clear as soon as we met Sue that she cared passionately about her work. We are delighted with our garden that Sue designed…The entire process was made simple and stress free for us. Sue listened and incorporated the specific brief that we gave her… with her knowledge and expertise she was able to expand upon our ideas and exceed by far our expectations creating a beautiful garden for our family to enjoy, all within our budget as well!
“Sue has designed several areas of our garden for us and it has been a joy to work with her. She has be able to translate our rather vague plans and add her own ideas to produce some beautiful designs which perfectly suit our garden and our own tastes. In addition to the garden designs, Sue has liaised with her excellent contractors for us, bought and positioned plants and planted if required. We have been delighted with all the work she has done for us and hope very much to work with her again.”
“Sue designed our garden around ten years ago now. We weren’t experienced gardeners ourselves and so were looking for an environment that would be easy to care for and would deliver a contemporary look for our city space. Sue listened carefully and worked with us to meet our requirements. She created a space that worked brilliantly for our growing family with thoughtful planting that gives year round interest – a beautiful oasis in the inner city that we love and is much admired by our family and friends. ”
“We had been thinking about landscaping our garden for years and had various people over to give us some ideas but none really inspired us until we met Sue…Her design was imaginative, different and definitely had the wow factor that we were looking for. We have loved being in our new garden this summer. The planting is stunning and has been much admired by our friends while enjoying the fabulous new entertainment spaces. We would have no hesitation in recommending Sue’s work.”
“We found Sue’s imaginative and practical approach very helpful in designing our garden. She’s a joy to work with and we would definitely recommend her to anyone.”
“Having purchased our lovely holiday home in Southwold…we turned our attention to the garden. We wanted to have a seaside/Mediterranean theme to the garden, as we were so close to the seafront, as well as keeping it low maintenance. We contacted Sue – it was a great decision, she knew instinctively what we wanted and came up with a lovely garden plan which incorporated local recycled materials such as woods, paving, sleepers, stones and of course plants suitable for the weather conditions in this part of Suffolk.
Nearly two years later the garden is well established and the planting is thriving. We are really pleased with the garden from our initial discussions with Sue to how it looks now.
It was certainly worth the money spent and gives us and our visitors much pleasure now and will continue to do so for many years to come – a real investment.
We have no hesitation in recommending Sue Townsend not only for her garden design and knowledge, but for also being such a lovely person to work with.”
